Deltarune, the honestly peak 25$ game
Deltarune is an indie rpg type game, with some twists.
Opposed as to taking damage whenever the enemies attack, you're prompted to dodge with a red heart(yes this is you).
Alongside that you have (some) choices to make, (most of the times not) impacting the story.
Deltarune was first published as a demo in 2018 by Tobias Fox, creator of Undertale(we'll get on that later), however Deltarune started development around 2012.
Deltarune follows 3(actually 4 but the 4th one isn't followed as much) characters, Kris(the 'player' character), Susie and, Ralsei
Kris is the 'main' protagonist, however you are not Kris, you are the aformentioned 'red heart'
Susie is the stereotypical 'bully' brute character, however she changes alot over the story.
Ralsei is a 'prince' of the dark world(i'll get to it later) and knows alot about the prophecy(Kris Susie and Ralsei are all part of it.)
left is ralsei, middle is susie, right is kris
Deltarune starts off in the light world, as you play as Kris Dreemurr, your mom, Toriel Dreemurr takes you to the school, where you later meet Susie in a not so friendly way.
After some minor dialouge, they fall into the 'dark world' where usual inanimate objects are brought to life(most of them, Ralsei is some special case darkner here as we dont know who he is.)
After that, Ralsei introduces himself and explains the prophecy, but however Susie runs away, declining her status as a 'hero', encountering one of her only friends, Lancer.
lancer
We find Susie later in the story, but she brutally and relentlessly attacks enemies instead of following your commands, making it hard to go completely pacifistic.
A couple rooms after that all three main characters get captured into a prison for life, Ralsei is more or less hopeless, so as Kris
However Susie is outraged at this and breaks out with help from Kris
She finds out that Lancer orchestrated all of this, and she brutally fights Lancer, but soon after she apologizes.
We then enter a prison elevator, where we finally get a calm, relaxed scene where all three characters get to talk, leading to Susie trying out acting(and character development).
At the end, we fight the King, Lancer's dad, where depending on if you spared enemies or tried to fight them, you get the people of the kingdom overthrowing the king, or Ralsei puts the King to sleep, so Kris can seal the dark fountain (the thing that makes dark worlds).
You see, Deltarune isn't completely original, it was actually inspired by his(Tobias Fox's) own game, Undertale
Because of Undertale's success, it lead to Deltarune's creation, and it's ending being based off of a fever dream.
Undertale also has many narrative differences, which I will explain later.
And because of Deltarune's mysterious nature, with unknown characters, it drives the community to find out who they are, and make theories.
Deltarune also has many similarities and differences with Undertale
Undertale allows for alot of choice in it's narrative, letting you get several endings depending on your choice
However, Deltarune constantly hits us with the phrase "Your choices don't matter", as like a mantra.
The combat in both games are really similar, with the same 'dodge the attacks with the red heart' formula while having one 'party' member, but Deltarune gives a party member the ability to Defend, raising TP and attacks doing less damage to them, alongside having a party.
